Nowadays there’s very few people who can say that online dating is ‘hard’. Although there are certain aspects of this cyber dating online system that can get a bit tricky for both men and women alike.

So why is there a general consensus that men have a harder time dating online than women?

Well, it is quite hard to cover every base of the subject without turning it into a ‘battle of the sexes’. Nonetheless, we surveyed users from oneclickdates.com and here’s a few things we found out.

When there’s a surplus of men, women become a minority

Did you know that the male-female populus today is actually close to equal? The general surplus of women which was true for many years after the second World War is no longer true.

In the online dating world, male users outnumber the females by 10% which, in hindsight, does not sound like that big of a difference. However, the reality is that a pretty looking woman can receive up to 150-200 messages daily (depending on the dating app / site).

Imagine trying to stand out in a sea of messages from various dating profiles - the majority of which remain unread. This is one of the reasons why Tinder UK was such a huge success - the concept of matching two interested parties before they get chatting has made it easier for women to sort through their plethora of potential suitors.

Women are ‘picky’, but men are very impatient

An argument you hear a lot coming from men is that women have all the power from a relationship standpoint. At the end of the day, they are the ones that decide whether the males’ approach is enticing or not.

Men, on the other hand, are often described as being ‘pushy’. With cyber stalking being on the rise in the last decade, you can’t really blame women for wanting to know who they are chatting with before they meetup.

Women’s standards are too high, and men’s relationship pace is quite fast-moving. This results in a situation where men become impatient and women become less and less trusting. That’s why it is important to take things slow!

Men get rejected, women get attention

The notion that men have to deal with rejection way more than women is correct, in fact, men get dismissed approximately 80% of the time. Although, it should be mentioned that men approach a lot more women as opposed to women approaching men.

On the other hand, women receive a lot of sexual attention online, as mentioned above, women can receive an incredibly excessive amount of messages per day. Receiving attention, though, does not always mean dating success - In fact, women are often the recipients of a lot of criticism online.

This has led to the conclusion that the majority of men don’t put enough effort in their approach when flirting on dating websites, making women less likely to be interested. And women, while they don’t often get rejected, sometimes end up at the other end of men’s frustrations.

In the grand scheme of things, George Carlin said it best:

Here's all you need to know about men and women: women are crazy, men are stupid. And the main reason women are crazy is that men are stupid.

Assuming that one gender has it easier than the other is simply a case of ‘the grass grows greener on the other side’. Both sides have issues, albeit contrasting in nature, both want the same thing - to find romance with a dating partner.

So, which side do you think is truly greener?
